Red Label
48 x 60 in Oil and Cold Wax on panel
Red Label is a large-scale abstract painting defined by material depth, quiet contrast, and restrained structure. The entire surface is built up with Venetian plaster, creating a physically textured foundation that carries through the composition.
Over this base, layers of oil and cold wax form a white, weathered upper field marked by subtle shifts, softened edges, and traces of earlier decisions. The lower section incorporates gold leaf and gold oil and cold wax, chemically patinated to produce tonal variation and a muted metallic presence that changes with the light.
A single red vertical element interrupts the field, acting as a point of focus and tension. The painting balances openness with material density, inviting slow viewing and an awareness of surface, weight, and structure.
