Red Painting
48 x 48 in Oil and Cold Wax on panel
Red Painting is built through successive layers of oil and cold wax, with areas of Venetian plaster embedded into the surface to create physical depth and variation. The dominant red field is interrupted by subtle shifts in tone and texture, allowing traces of ochre and turquoise to emerge through abrasion, scraping, and reduction.
The surface holds evidence of both construction and removal — dense passages contrast with quieter, worn areas where earlier layers remain visible. Texture is not applied uniformly; instead, it accumulates in select areas, encouraging the viewer to slow down and read the painting through touch as much as colour.
Although the palette is restrained, the painting resists flatness. Light interacts differently across the surface depending on angle and proximity, emphasizing the material presence of the work and reinforcing its scale. At 48 x 48 inches, the painting occupies space confidently, inviting an immersive, bodily response rather than a purely visual one.
